Goal: Rally everyone to serve with a smile, create a warm and welcoming environment, and get commitments for Easter Sunday.
1. Big Picture
“You never get a second chance to make a first impression.”
“Our goal is that from the moment people pull into the lot, they feel like they matter. Because they do.”
Our goal is that from the moment people pull into the lot, they feel like they matter. Because they do.”
“Hospitality is more than a handshake—it’s ministry.” When people walk through our doors, we want them to feel the love of Jesus before they ever hear a sermon. A smile, a wave in the parking lot, a warm ‘Happy Easter’—it all adds up to an atmosphere of grace.
This is one of the few Sundays a year where someone might finally say “yes” to coming to church after years of saying “no.” Whether it’s a single mom, a skeptical teen, or a grandparent who’s never been in a church like ours—we want them to feel like they’ve come home.
We’re not just looking for helpers—we’re looking for hosts.
The way you serve could open the door for someone to encounter God in a real way. People may forget the sermon, they may forget the songs, but they’ll remember how they felt.
What if the moment someone walked through the door, they felt hope? What if your hello was the start of someone’s new beginning?
2. Roles to Cover
Tell people we have the following “opportunities”. “Would you be willing to help us for just this one week?”
Parking Lot Attendants – Help direct traffic, smile and wave, and guide first-time guests. Make sure elderly visitors are properly escorted to the doors.
Door Openers – First friendly face they see at the building. Offer a simple, warm ‘Good morning, Happy Easter!’ Both Entrances Matter – "While we prefer guests enter through the side door (near the parking lot), we know some will come through the front. Let’s have coverage at both so nobody walks in unseen."
Greeters – Inside the foyer/lobby. Say hello, guide guests to areas, and direct them to children’s church check-in(make sure they know about the nursery and then children’s church downstairs), restrooms, sanctuary, etc.
Hospitality Table – Help manage gift bags, coffee/snacks, and answer basic questions.
3. Signup and Scheduling
Ask everyone:
“What service(s) are you available for?” (Eggstravaganza + 9AM/11AM Easter Sunday)
Encourage people to commit to both if they’re able – but even one is a huge help!
4. Encouragement & Excellence
“You may not be preaching, but your smile might be the reason someone decides to come back next week.”
Remind them to show up 15-20 minutes early, be friendly, and help create an atmosphere of joy and celebration.
Dress appropriately –wear the volunteer lanyard, Parkway shirts or their easter best maybe wearing the lanyard but just allow people to know you are someone people can talk to.
5. Cards, Guests & Next Steps
If someone mentions it's their first time, make sure they feel celebrated—even a quick ‘We’re so glad you’re here!’ goes a long way.”
Be intentional about pointing new visitors to fill out a connect card and grab their free gift.
Greeters can help direct them to the hospitality table after service.
Emphasize: “Every guest gets a gift – don’t let anyone walk out without being noticed and appreciated.”
